Full Home Automation

private house, Yorkshire Dales national park

Howsons Ltd had the privilege of being M&E providers on a local project for a client that was building a family home within the Yorkshire Dales and wanted to make the home as ‘smart’ as possible.

BRIEF

Upon receiving the client’s specification for the project, we met with the owners and architect to discuss their needs and requirements. They went on to explain that the property was to be a unique daily home and that remote management of the systems within the house and grounds was of paramount importance to them.

With one touch, dim the lights, play music, turn up the heat, lock the doors and arm the security system. Check in on your home from your smartphone, no matter where you are. Press a ‘goodnight’ button that will put your house to sleep, turning off all the lights and locking all doors. With Control4 your options are virtually limitless.

SOLUTIONS SELECTED

Fully Automated Lighting - With one button welcome and goodbye, there’s no need to go around and switch everything on/off individually. Logging in to the app, the touch screens or the remote will do everything for you.

On top of that, all lights can be controlled remotely, whether you’re home or not. There’s no need to get up from the sofa to dim the lights, you can create mood lighting while watching TV from your phone.

Timing allows the lights to come on at a certain time, slowly getting brighter in the morning as you rise, or replacing the setting sen without you even realising it.

Access and Security - The property has a fully integrated alarm system, with HD CCTV cameras, allowing the owners full visibility of the site.

2 sets of automated gates and a bollard securing the premises have electronic locking mechanisms, which are connected to the system. This allows them to be opened and closed remotely at any time.

Because everything is joined together, the owners can see the live video feed on their phones and can speak to guests at the gates via an intercom and a simple press of a button will allow access.

Multi Room Audio and Visual - Throughout the property, the owners had various televisions mounted on walls with full surround sound speaker systems, all with audio zones in different areas of the house.

All of these systems were connected to the house (and therefore to each other), allowing for full audio and visual integration.

This meant that the owners could watch anything on TV, and seamlessly move to another room and keep watching. The audio zones in the house also allow music streaming throughout. Listening to a favourite playlist in the kitchen for example, means you can walk in to the bedroom and the music will follow.
